Simone Biles Inspires Youth During Visit to Friends of the Children – Chicago
World champion gymnast and long-time Friends of the Children ambassador Simone Biles visited Friends of the Children – Chicago to meet with youth and professional mentors—called Friends—at the chapter’s clubhouse. During her visit, Simone spent time connecting with youth, answering their questions, signing autographs, and sharing words of encouragement about believing in themselves and their futures.
One of our favorite moments from the visit was when Vanessa* asked, "Do you ever say anything negative about yourself and how do you stop?" Simone replied, "Sometimes you think you're too short or you're too tall... you're perfect just how you are and so I try to do my affirmations every single day."
Then Simone led the youth through some of her favorite affirmations including, "I am brave", "I am loved", and "I am important".
“We are honored to have Simone Biles visit our Friends of the Children - Chicago clubhouse,” said Phalon Carpenter, Program Director of Friends - Chicago. “As one of the greatest athletes of all time, she is an incredible role model to our youth, but her experiences with the foster care system allow her to connect with the children and teens in our program in such an authentic and meaningful way. We are proud to have her support in raising awareness of how professional mentoring can help support youth in the most need.”
Thank you, Simone, for showing up for youth and for your continued support, leadership, and belief in the power of individualized and intentional Professional Mentorship. For 12+ years, no matter what.
