Friends of the Children is honored to be featured in The New York Times' latest spotlight on World Champion gymnast and youth advocate Simone Biles, “The 5 Moments That Made Simone Biles.” The article reflects not only on the defining moments of Simone’s historic gymnastics career, but also on her passion for making a difference off the mat.

As a fierce advocate for youth experiencing foster care, Simone shares her personal journey and uses her platform to uplift organizations like ours that walk alongside youth facing some of life’s greatest obstacles. In the final section of the story, Simone highlights her role as an official ambassador for Friends of the Children.

“It’s exciting to be an advocate for some of these causes, because I’ve personally gone through them,” says Simone. “I want to lend a hand, even if it’s just saying, ‘Hey guys, I’m not perfect. This is what I’ve gone through. Here’s what I’ve done to help myself. And this is what could potentially help you.’”

Friends of the Children is honored to have Simone’s voice amplifying our mission and we are grateful for her authenticity, resilience, and unwavering belief in the power of long-term, professional mentorship.
