PBS Special Features Friends of the Children
Tune in Saturday, September 17, 2016, and watch Friends of the Children on the PBS special American Graduate Day. Selected
as a featured partner for the event, Friends of the Children will be
highlighted during the four-hour national broadcast celebrating the
individuals and nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping youth stay
on track to high school graduation. American Graduate Day is the culminating event of Spotlight Education – a special week of prime-time education-themed programming on PBS beginning September 12, 2016.
Hosted by Soledad O'Brien, American Graduate Day is
returning for its 5th year on Saturday, September 17, 2016, streaming
live from Tisch WNET Studios in NYC from 2 p.m.–6 p.m. ET and on public
television stations across the country (check your local listings
below). Note: Friends will be featured in the 1st hour of the program.
Celebrity guests and more than 25 nonprofit organizations from across the country, including Friends of the Children, will be featured as partners for American Graduate Day, with guests including Gen. and Mrs. Colin Powell, Shaquille O’Neal, and Rachel Platten, and organizations including My Brother’s Keeper, the Sparkle Effect, Sesame Street® and the Ad Council.
This year’s broadcast will explore the power of mentorship through half-hour long segments on the following topics: Early Education, More and Better Learning, Special Needs Communities, STEAM, Dropout Prevention and Re-Engagement, and College and Career Readiness.
