Friends of the Children Featured in Inside Philanthropy
Friends of the Children is highlighted in a new Inside Philanthropy article, “New Data Helps Mentorship-Focused Nonprofits Make Their Case to Philanthropy,” by Wendy Paris, focusing on how mentorship organizations are using powerful new data to strengthen their case to funders.
In the article, Friends of the Children is recognized as a national leader in evidence-based impact and delivering long-term, professional mentoring to children facing the greatest obstacles for 12+ years, no matter what. Terri Sorensen, CEO of Friends of the Children – National is interviewed at length in the article about both new data and fundraising.
The piece also previews findings from Friends of the Children’s groundbreaking 12-year randomized controlled trial funded by the National Institutes of Health, with final results expected this spring. Early data shows especially strong outcomes in preventing substance use and depression.
As the article underscores, mentorship is one of the most cost-effective, evidence-backed investments funders can make—with Friends of the Children and Big Brothers Big Sisters as exemplars. At Friends of the Children, we’re proud to help lead that conversation and continue to demonstrate that professional mentoring is an essential infrastructure for our future, especially for children who experience the hardest things in life like foster care.
