Dr. Andraé L. Brown is the Chief Officer of Chapter Success at Friends of the Children, a role in which he continues to leverage his extensive experience gained from consulting for various FOTC Chapters and the National team since 2009. His distinguished career spans roles as a professor (Hunter College, Lewis & Clark College, Howard University, University of Southern California, and Montgomery College), director of community-based mental health and educational facilities, and a strategic consultant, consistently championing empowerment and social justice across multiple sectors.
Internationally recognized, Dr. Brown has developed and implemented educational and restorative justice services for youth and families and served as a consultant for violence prevention and community resilience projects. His expertise in trauma and systemic interventions has significantly impacted policies addressing violence, homelessness, poverty, and health disparities.
Dr. Brown has designed and implemented community-based programs, enhancing communication and collaboration among stakeholders to support the well-being of families and communities. His research and initiatives focus on resilience, psychosocial development across the lifespan, and empowering multigenerational families.
In his current role, Dr. Brown will develop, implement, and lead strategies aligned with Friends National's responsibility and commitment to support the programmatic and organizational success of a network of 30+ chapters.
Dr. Brown holds a Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy from Seton Hall University, an M.Ed. in school counseling from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, and a B.S. in psychology from Elizabeth City State University. He is a licensed Marriage, Couple, & Family Therapist in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
