Dr. Christine Phares has spent over 15 years working alongside children, families, and communities to expand access to opportunities and resources. Her experience in the nonprofit sector, and public and private education has shaped her belief that strong relationships, equity, and thoughtful strategy are essential to creating lasting change.
In the development sector, Christine has extensive experience writing, securing, and managing public and private grants at the county, state, and federal levels. She has worked with organizations to design strategies that align with funder priorities and support meaningful, measurable impact. Christine has also contributed as a grants panelist and evaluator for city and statewide agencies and has shared her perspective as a development consultant and keynote speaker, helping organizations communicate compelling cases for support.
Christine began her career as an educator in low-income schools in Houston and New York City before moving into a career in nonprofit. She regularly consults with local arts organizations and school districts on development strategy, curriculum design, and professional learning, and serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. In 2025, she completed the United Way of Greater Houston’s Emerging Leaders Institute, strengthening her skills in nonprofit strategy and equity-centered leadership. Christine completed her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and also holds degrees in Music Education (BM) and Music (MM) from the University of North Texas and Lamar University along with additional studies in Mass Communications from Texas State University.
Christine lives in Houston with her dog, Ellie. She enjoys reading, swimming, volunteering, and being part of creative, community-centered spaces.
