Goal: 25 Cities by 2025

Friends of the Children is taking its evidenced-based model national in an ambitious plan to change the story for thousands of youth.

"Our unique Friends model is proven, we’re ready to scale nationally and we are looking for partners and communities that are ready to join us in our mission to end generational poverty," said Terri Sorensen, Chief Executive Officer

Growth Strategy

Friends’ expansion plan was central to the organization being selected as the winner of the Social Impact Exchange Business Plan Competition. The growth strategy aims to expand Friends' reach to 25 cities by 2025.

Our successful model is now in 22 locations, including five sites in Oregon (Portland, Gresham, Klamath Falls, Central Oregon, and Eugene); three sites in California (Antelope Valley, Los Angeles, and San Francisco); three sites in Washington (Seattle, Southwest Washington and Tacoma); Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN; Harlem and the South Bronx, NY; Salt Lake City, UT; Tampa Bay, FL; and Cornwall, United Kingdom. Friends of the Children has been named the Most Admired Nonprofit in Oregon in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015 by the Portland Business Journal.

As we continue to expand, we are committed to serving as change agents across the country and share the Friends model with organizations interested in adopting the model or specific components.
